To get started in a career in Engineering, you would normally require a bachelor's degree in engineering. Students can choose to specialize in a specific area of engineering and eventually carve out a career in that area of work.
Engineers with some years of experience, may be become technical specialists or supervisors, with a team of engineers or technicians reporting to him. If they continue to excel in their work and continuously upgrading their knowledge & expertise, they may eventually become managers or higher.
In the last few years, engineers graduates commanded higher starting salaries than graduates from other areas of studies. These salaries may vary by field of engineering and level of qualification.
Engineers can choose to work in the following areas of design and development:
- design, plan and supervise the construction of buildings, highways, and transit systems;
- develop, implement & improve ways to extract, process and usage of raw materials;
- develop new materials that can improve the performance of products and take advantage of advances in technology;
- analyze the impact of the products they develop or the systems they design on the environment and on people using them;
Engineers can also seek a career in the following fields of testing, production, or maintenance:
- supervise production in factories;
- determine the causes of breakdowns;
- test manufactured products to maintain quality;
- estimate the time and cost to complete projects
