Dublin is the capital city of Ireland with a population in excess of 1 million. It is situated on the east coast with an international airport and extensive sea ferry services. The climate is temperate with no excesses of heat or cold. The city has an increasingly international population but nevertheless retains a true Irish flavour.

The origins of the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) go back for more than a century ago. Currently the Institute has an enrolment of 10,000 full-time tertiary students, pursuing some 85 different programmes at certificate, diploma, degree and postgraduate levels, as well as another 8,000 part-time students. DIT has the largest enrolment of any higher education institution in Dublin.

DIT plays a leading role in technological and business education in Ireland. Its technological strengths are centred in the faculties of Engineering, Science, Business, Tourism & Food and the Built Environment. It has also a substantial involvement in the area of Applied Arts with particular strengths in music, art & design, media, modern languages, legal studies and social science. The institute is closely involved with the latest developments in technology in all areas, while maintaining a continuing commitment to industrial, economic and cultural development.

DIT Mission

DIT is a comprehensive higher educational institution, which fulfills a national and international role in providing full-time and part-time educational programmes across the whole spectrum of higher education. It aims to achieve this in an innovative, responsive, caring and flexible learning environment. It is committed to providing access to students of all ages and backgrounds and to achieving quality and excellence in all aspects of its work. This commitment extends to the provision of research, product development and consultancy services for industry and society while continuing to have regard to the technological, commercial, social and cultural needs of the community it serves.

Student's Union

The DIT Students’ Union (DITSU) is the largest students’ union in the country and is the representative body for all students of the Institute. The Student’s Union works to defend the interests of all students, and thus provides a large variety of services to its students, such as photocopying and fax services, pool tables and video games etc. DITSU also organises a lot of social activities throughout the year ranging from lunch time entertainment to parties and gatherings. These activities help both national and international students to settle into college and make new friends. DITSU also encourages international students to involve themselves in DIT’s Clubs and Societies. Over the years it has been found that such involvement plays an invaluable part in helping foreign students enjoy life in college and integrate socially.

Ireland flag

The Republic of Ireland has a population of approximately 5 million people. Ireland has a mild, oceanic climate. Ireland, often referred to as the Emerald Isle, is one of the least environmentally spoilt countries in Western Europe. Lakes, mountains, spectacular cliffs, deserted beaches, rugged countryside and more than 2000 miles of coastline make up the Irish landscape.
