The Foundation Year for the University of Western Australia, which is taught exclusively by Taylors College on behalf of the University, has been specifically developed to prepare international students for entry into undergarduate courses at the University of Western Australia and at other univerities around Australia.

Two formats of The Foundation Year Program:
- 40-week Standard Program commencing in January and September.
- 30-week Accelerated Program commencing in April. This program is particularly designed for students with a high level English Language proficiency and superior academic results.
Choosing Foundation Year Subjects
Subjects from the list below are compulsory for entry to undergraduate courses at The University of Western Australia:
- English (Compulsory)
- Computer Science
- Mathematics A
- Mathematics B
Students entering the January or September intakes must select 5 subjects while those entering the April intake must study 4 or 5 subjects (if wishing to pursue Engineering or Science) from the list above.
To complete the program, students have to take electives subjects together with compulsory subjects.
Entry to student's chosen undergraduate degree is dependent upon meeting minimum grades prescribed by the University on the student's best 4 subjects. Grade "D" in English is also required for successful completion of the Foundation Year Program.
Teaching Methods and Learning Resources
The Foundation Year Program of UWA prepares students for their university degree through a variety of teaching methods including classes, tutorials, group work and presentations. Subjects are supported by reference texts, study guides and software packages. Students will be provided a booklist prior to the commencement of the course.
Academic staff carefully monitor student achievement and give regular feedback on their progress through the program. Assessment comprises a mixture of coursework, tests and examinations. Final assessment takes into account coursework grades and examination results.
