The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1583, is one of the UK's most prestigious universities. For more than 400 years, Edinburgh has been one of the most influential centres of knowledge in the world and producing many Nobel Prize winners. The QS  World University Rankings 2014/2015, rate the University of Edinburgh 17th in the world. With a current student population of around 25,000 (roughly 18,000 undergraduates and 6,500 postgraduates). More than a fifth of these students are international and are drawn from more than 137 different countries. The University, having a scottish culture offers a flexible 3 or 4 year undergraduate degree and focused postgraduate programmes.

There are a total of 21 Schools in three Colleges: Humanties & Social Sciences, Medicine & Veterinary Medicine and Science & Engineering. The original campus is in the heart of Edinburgh's historical old town but the University has now expanded to 5 campuses in and around the city centre.
